Most people know me as a pie maker. And yes, pies are my heart. But if you've ever wondered whether Sweet Pea's has more up its sleeve — the answer is a warm, buttery, scratch-made yes.
Where It All Started
My love for baking started long before I ever rolled a pie crust. Growing up, my mom's friends would stop by to visit, and they quickly learned they'd better stay long enough for me to make and serve them something. My go-to was a marble loaf cake with confectioner's icing or fudge poured over the top — simple, but made with everything I had.
I came by my hospitality honestly. My favorite aunt, Nona, lived in Buffalo, Minnesota, and a trip to her house meant cookies, vanilla cake with butter sauce, and any number of treats I still think about today. I'm lucky enough to have her recipe box after all these years, and those early experiences with family and delicious baked goods are part of what inspired me to open our retail space in the first place.
When we created the retail space in the front of our Wisconsin kitchen, I wanted to share some of my most loved family recipes with you — our extended family and beloved customers.
What You'll Find In Our Bakery Case
When you stop in, you'll find a small, rotating selection of pie, pie slices, cookies, cakes, and cheesecakes ready to take home. Because we're a small-town bakery in Mayville (population: about 5,000!), we keep our grab-and-go inventory reasonable for the foot traffic we see. But don't let that fool you — our made-from-scratch baked goods are anything but ordinary.

A Note on Cake Decorating
I'll be honest with you — I am not a professional cake decorator, and I'm proud of that. What I am is a scratch baker who puts love and real ingredients into everything that comes out of this kitchen. So when it comes to design requests, you keep it simple and I'll keep it tasty. If you need a glam up, though, pick up some toppers from your favorite online shop, or send us your artwork and we'll print it on edible fondant for your cookie or cake order. Simple and delicious is always in style.
